WHO STAFFS THE LINE?

    Teens aged 16-19 from the Southern New Hampshire area are recruited and receive training.

WHAT KIND OF TRAINING IS PROVIDED THE VOLUNTEER?

    Volunteers participate in a training program which focuses on active listenting skills. Teens are prepared to provide a listening and caring ear. They are NOT trained to solve peoples� problems. All volunteers are trained to handle medical emergencies.

WHO MIGHT CALL THE LINE?

    Teens who are stressed, upset or in crisis as well as teens who may be suicidal.

WHAT CAN A CALLER EXPECT?

    Callers can expect to be listened to in a non-judgmental manner as they discuss those issues which call pain in their lives. The can expect their call to be held in confidence.

WHAT ISSUES MIGHT BE DISCUSSED BY THE CALLER?

    There are a wide variety of issues that people call about. These might include problems at home or school, substance abuse, sexuality, pregnancy, concerns over friends or family, feelings of despair etc�

DOES PROJECT SAF-TALK TRACE CALLS?

    NO .... We do not compromise the callers� anonymity ............. UNLESS ... the caller gives us permission to do

HOW CAN CALLING THE HELPLINE HELP?

    Often, what we need is an opportunity to talk through out problems, to feel heard. There are times when the intensity of painful feelings can be diffused by sharing them with someone else. There are times when we need to discuss our problems in order to think more clearly about them. There are times when we need help in order to stay safe..
